We are an Enviro-School and have been awarded a SILVER Award from Environment Southland.
We have designed and made a new Garden Area with the help of many parents and members of the community. It was officially opened at the end of 2011.
Kids Restore the Kepler
This year we are excited to be part of the ‘Kids Restore the Kepler’ project led by The Fiordland Conservation Trust. Along with Fiordland College, the Department of Conservation and the wider community, we are aiming to find ways to eradicate pests eg stoats, rats and possums, so more native birdsong will be heard in our beautiful National Park (and our township).
Kids Restore and the Air New Zealand Environment Trust are the major funding sponsors for the project.
In Term One all students are working in mixed-age groups to learn about different aspects of the project.
Once they have a good basic understanding of the bush and native birds, they will focus on an aspect that interests them. We will be going into the National Park to carry out surveys and help promote awareness of the project. We hope the students will take ownership of the project and suggest possible future action.
