School Bus

Who can use the school bus service?

Primary school age children living more than 3.2km away from their closest school are eligible for School Transport Assistance.

If children are ineligible to receive free bus transport there may be some situations where they can still use the bus. This is only possible if there is spare space on the bus. An example of this may be when a child needs to go home with a friend. Parents must contact the school office to ask if there is space.

Who’s involved in providing school bus services?

  • Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education manage and administer our School Transport. A factsheet on school bus routes available HERE

  • Bus Controller

Our Principal is responsible for school bus route administration and safety. Using a checklist, teachers ensure the students safely board the right buses at the school gate.

  • Transport Service Provider

Ritchies Coachlines runs the service on our routes for the Ministry.

What can I do to keep my child safe?

A comprehensive information sheet is available HERE

It should be noted that the biggest risk of injury to a child travelling to school, by any means, is running out on the road heedlessly. We recommend you meet your child on the same side of the road as the bus stop.

What safety Standards apply to school buses?

All buses operating within our school zone meet the required safety standards. The buses used do not have seatbelts. The numbers of children at this time mean there is no standing (although this is permitted).
