Principal’s Welcome

Kia Ora and welcome to Te Anau School!

We are a year one to six primary school situated on the edge of Lake Te Anau and Fiordland National Park. We are the heart of a very supportive community who are active in all aspects of school life. Being situated in the centre of town allows us to utilise all the facilities the town has on offer. Our students frequently spend time enjoying the local environment including our lake, forest and parks. Student learning is at the core of all we do.

We have high achieving students who take part in a range of extracurricular activities including public speaking, environmental projects and a range of sporting competitions. We have high expectations for the students of the Te Anau community.

Orbell the Takahe is our school character and graduate profile. He has five learning dispositions: an inquiring mind (bucket hat); effective communicator (cups and string); can do attitude (thumbs up); connected to our world (atlas); and our school values (his kete on his back). You will see Orbell in all aspects of life at Te Anau School.

We operate a Foundation Room for our new entrant students. This involves our students taking part in the learning of foundation skills to develop the vestibular system (balance), left and right brain integration, body awareness, reflexes, visual and auditory skills and fine and gross motor skills. Students move on from this room when they have the necessary skills for further school learning. This is done with consultation of the parents.

We look forward to your involvement at Te Anau School.

Orbell represents the five core learning dispositions we believe are important for a Te Anau School Learner
Orbell is wearing a greenstone necklace (pounamu) representing Fiordland/Milford Sound, the Te Anau School uniform to show our uniqueness and pride and a friendly and welcoming smile just like a Te Anau learner.
